This study was carried out at Shandaweel Research Station, Sohag Governolate belong to Agric. Res. Center, Egypt during two summer seasons; 2021 and 2022 to study the performance of thirty six sunflower genotypes, i.e., Six male sterile (CMS) lines (A-lines) along with four fertility restorer lines (Rf-lines), in addition to their 24 hybrids and two commercial Egyptian cultivars (Sakha 53 and Giza 120) and to account variation, genetic advance with correlation and path coefficients for them on some growth and yield traits of sunflower. Results revealed that broad sense heritability (h2) exhibited the highest percentage in all studied traits which showed, also, high GCV/PCV percent. The genotypes displayed considerable and almost comparable genetic advance in yield/plant. Genetic advance as percent of mean (GAM %) was high for all studied traits. High estimates of the heritability, along with a high expected genetic advance showed the potential usefulness of these traits and genotypes to develop breeding programs to improve the yield and quality. Correlation analyses revealed a strong genetic association among morphological and yield related traits. The positive and highly significant correlation of seed yield/plant with head diameter, and plant height was obtained in both seasons implying that these traits have stable relations and these traits are indicators for yield, hence could be selected simultaneously for improvement in breeding programs. Regarding the relative importance (RI) of joint effects, the highest value of the indirect effects was recorded by plant height on yield/plant through its associations with head diameter (21.5 and 34.31 %) in genotypic level and (17.31 and 19.5) at 1st and 2nd season, respectively. Direct selection may be carried out considering these traits as the main selection criteria to cut down indirect effects of the other characters throughout the development of high-yielding sunflower varieties.
