Abstract

Vegetable crops are considered among the most important food crops that provide humans with the nutrients necessary to prevent diseases. It is also noted that the demand for them increases as the educational level and nutritional awareness of individuals increases on the one hand and the population increases on the other hand. Therefore, the promotion of vegetable crops is considered necessary and vital to meet the increase in local demand for vegetables resulting from the continuous increase in population on the one hand and the increase in income and purchasing power on the other hand. And also to increase the quantities exported to foreign markets, as vegetable crops are among the most important agricultural crops, both in terms of food and export.      Through the results that were obtained and the results of the productive and economic indicators of the potato crop, it was shown that there is an annual increase in both the cultivated area, estimated at about 17.18 thousand acres, and the per-acre productivity estimated at about 0.11 tons. It was also found that there was an annual increase in total production, the amount of loss, local consumption, and the average per capita share, estimated at about 225.42, 61.90, 242.36, and 0.41 thousand tons, respectively. Through the results of foreign trade in the Egyptian potato crop, it was found that there was an annual increase in the quantity of potato exports, estimated at approximately 24.78 thousand tons. It was also shown that there was an increase in the value of potato exports, estimated at approximately 11.49 million dollars, while the price of an export ton of potatoes was insignificant.
In the end, this study recommends some recommendations, perhaps the most important of which are:
1- The necessity of providing a government database concerned with studying foreign markets and knowing the most important competitors. The export price policy must be reconsidered to strengthen Egypt’s competitive position, and the necessity of paying attention to the foreign market in terms of export dates and paying attention to export specifications and international quality requirements in accordance with the standard specifications for each type of agricultural exports to facilitate Knowing the items required in foreign markets and tightening control over exports.
2- Paying attention to farmers of vegetable crops with comparative and competitive advantages in the governorates of Egypt and working to take measures to ensure that they overcome production obstacles and develop new varieties with high genetic characteristics.
